Anglo American Exchange

We are a teaching Chambers. For a decade and a half we have been actively involved in the training of newly qualified Barristers. Each year, after qualifying but before actual call to the Bar, interested candidates at the Middle Temple Inn of Court compete for a scholarship which allows them to train with our Chambers. Our mission is to expose the barrister to American jurisprudence and methods of practice and to discern the differences between English and American advocacy. Under supervision, Pupils become actively involved in cases and in some instances can appear in Court. The following is a list of our alumni:

Our 2007 Anglo-American Scholar is Miss Kate Rivett. Miss Rivett was Called to the Bar in 2006 having completed the Bar Vocational Course at the College of Law, London. In 2005 she obtained a merit in the Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies at the University of East Anglia, having previously studied Mathematics and Philosophy at the University of Sheffield.

She represented the University of East Anglia in the English Speaking Union Moot. She has undertaken work for charitable organizations on a pro bono basis including the Citizens Advice Bureau, the Legal Advice Centre at the College of Law and the Free Representation Unit. She is currently working for Eversheds LLP in their employment law team.

Miss Rivett enjoys Ballroom and Latin American dancing and represented the University of Sheffield in National Competitions. She has traveled around the world during which time she qualified as an open water scuba diver. She has also raised money for charity through a bungee jump and an abseil for the British Red Cross.

As always, we are ever grateful to Ms Christa Richmond, Deputy Under Treasurer (Education), of the Honourable Society of Middle Temple for making the scholarship a success and for her devotion to the Bar and the success of its new barristers.
