Jonathan Moffatt

As part of the Anglo-American Exchange hosted by the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple, each year we host a newly-admitted English Barrister and give them a mini-pupillage in the practice of law here in the United States. Our pupil for 2009 is Jonathan Moffatt, but due to the fact that he was completing an internship with the European Commission in Brussels he couldn’t make it to Iowa until this spring.

Jonathan graduated from the University of Exeter with a first class degree in history, before undertaking the Graduate Diploma in Law and finally the Bar Vocational Course in London. He speaks highly of Middle Temple Inn through which he gained the Diplock scholarship, participated in debating and mooting societies and enjoyed the educational and social support network provided to Bar students. He has recently spent five months working for the European Commission in Brussels as an intern, before arriving here in Iowa to observe the American legal system, exchange ideas on the role of advocacy in a fused profession and learn how to speak American-English. He will begin his pupillage with Outer Temple Chambers, London in October 2010.
